Halloween Treasure Hunts Coming to Downtown Raleigh!

Published by Ben on

A unique new Halloween activity comes to Downtown Raleigh this October that will challenge participant’s minds and feet to find the Halloween King’s hidden treasure.

The Downtown Raleigh Halloween Treasure Hunt is a 60-90-minute walking team scavenger hunt that features Halloween-themed clues, puzzles, and prizes. Teams of 2-4 people will use their treasure map to explore downtown Raleigh on foot while searching for a variety of unique clues with the ultimate goal of opening the treasure chest.

Participants are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and special prizes will be given at each Halloween treasure hunt for the best costumes.

The treasure hunt is designed for ages 13 and up and provides a fun and challenging experience for everyone. Treasure hunt guides provide an initial briefing and are available throughout the hunt to provide clues to help teams along the way.

Hunts are offered on a number of weekend dates in October. The starting/ending location for the Halloween treasure hunt is outside the Raleigh Convention Center at the Sir Walter Raleigh statue. The treasure hunt takes place entirely outdoors in public spaces.

Triangle Treasure Hunt is a small local business founded in 2018 by Ben Strunk and Whitney Schoenfeld. They developed the business after doing a similar activity in Florence, Italy. Although they got lost wandering the winding Italian streets with little knowledge of the language, there was some real treasure at the end of the hunt when Ben got down on one knee.

After taking a break during the COVID pandemic, the business now offers treasure hunts in Raleigh, Cary, Apex, and Fuquay, with more locations on the way. Private group treasure hunts are also offered for corporate groups, team building, birthday parties, and other group events.

Ben Strunk was born in Columbus, Ohio and grew up playing all sorts of sports. He played baseball through high school, where he realized not every player is destined to play in the major leagues. Instead, he attended Ohio University and double-majored in Journalism and Sports Management. Following Ohio University, Ben attended graduate school at the University of Florida and currently works as a professional at NC State University. His youth baseball coach instilled in his kids the idea of “Attitude and Effort” as a motto for getting the most out of each player on the field and Ben has brought this motto with him to each stop along the way. Ben has used to the concepts of “Attitude and Effort” in his personal life to achieve a number of challenges. As an undergraduate student, Ben gained weight throughout his time at Ohio University. The summer after graduation, he stepped on a scale and saw the dreaded 300’s. In the midst of his first year of graduate school, he decided to take control of his health. Through daily workouts, eating healthier, and learning how to line dance, Ben dropped over 100 pounds in one year. After dropping the weight and moving to North Carolina, he needed a new challenge to help him stay fit. Without prior experience or training, he began running and running far. He successfully completed a 50K (31.0 miles) race in the fall of 2014, his first ever race of any distance, and has since completed six additional marathon or 50km races. He has now set his sights on qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
